What I Want You to Know:
After leaving a relationship in which I discovered my boyfriend had been cheating, I felt it was important to get tested for HIV and other STD's to be aware of my health status. I was lucky the test was negative.
Why I think it's important to challenge HIV/AIDS stereotypes:
Many people are unaware of existing stereotypes and the effects they have on people living with HIV/AIDS around the world.
How HIV/AIDS has affected my life:
While volunteering in Tanzania, I visited people living with HIV in a poorer community and was able to see the struggles this virus created in these people's lives, their families and communities. That experience has inspired me to return to Africa and work as a nurse to help people like these.
